Doug Liman directed Chaos Walking, a dystopian science fiction action adventure film based on a screenplay by Patrick Ness and Christopher Ford. The first novel, The Knife of Never Letting Go, from 2008, is adapted from Ness’s science fiction series Chaos Walking. The cast includes Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, and David Oyelowo. It follows a young man (Holland) who lives in a dystopian society devoid of women, in which all living animals can hear each other’s thoughts via “Noise,” a stream of images, phrases, and noises. When a woman (Ridley) crashes on the planet, he is forced to assist her in escaping danger.
