David “Mr. StarCity” White is opening his first major solo show in LA this weekend at Joseph Gross Gallery. Taking nearly two years to complete, this exhibition titled Give Me Some Head offers viewers and collectors the opportunity to experience the intimate journey of White’s creative process expressed in the form of self-portraits, sculpture, poetry, books and even cut-and-sew garments (in collaboration with bespoke brand Print All Over Me).

Give Me Some Head exhibits White’s ability to create stunningly imaginative work that exudes a colorful and vibrant positivity. His abstract self-portraits and corresponding poems are capsules of his vulnerability, each representing a chapter of an ongoing love story between himself and his art – wavering from feelings of joy to fear, to doubt and confusion, and ultimately the overwhelming ecstasy of falling in love all over again. It is with daring scale, light-heartedness and courage that this undeniably charismatic and transparently optimistic artist addresses such intimate and personal narratives.
The last and largest piece of this collection consists of large panels that White is finishing just days before the opening. To complete this work, White is living out of Joseph Gross Gallery, doing nothing but eating, painting and sleeping.
As Mr. StarCity proclaims, “this show is me giving the world a real piece of my mind; my head.”
