There are just those artists that all the other artists admire. For painters, you often hear of Neo Rauch, Jenny Saville and Kerry James Marshall as those artists for artists; a painter’s painter. In recent years, a few names keep creeping into the conversation, but we often hear of American artist, Hernan Bas, who just opened his fifth solo with Perrotin in Creature Comforts at their Paris space. Even now, I can think of numerous times I have seen a Bas painting at an art fair and just became absorbed in the details and slightly sinister nature of the paintings. He’s good, and you can sense the tension in each work.
