Palms Casino Resort Reopens with Art From Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Damien Hirst, and Many More

June 07, 2018

The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas certainly caught some attention with their recent art-filled venture. While many hotels have extensive art collections, it’s hard to ignore one that boasts original artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Timothy Curtis, Scott Hove, DABSMYLA, REVOK, and Takashi Murakami.

The art comes from a combination of private collections and pieces commissioned for the hotel. They’re aiming to incorporate art in a tasteful and exciting way that displays works not often seen outside of museums. A lot of the work also contains an experiential element, so beyond just taking selfies with a KAWS sculpture, one might also stumble into a bathroom that’s fully caked out à la Scott Hove.

This was all brought in as part of a full makeover for the Palms, which originally opened back in 2001. They hired Jesse and Cy Waits to handle “social experience,” and the duo brought on an old friend from The Seventh Letter Gallery named Tal Cooperman to curate the new space. Now, the Palms Casino Resort in Vegas is displaying more critically acclaimed, valuable, and intriguing art than could probably be found in most American states.

Check it out if you’re in Vegas. Even if you can’t get a room, maybe you can sneak a peek at Damien Hirst’s The Unknown (Explored, Explained, Exploded,) while you wait for the bartender to get you a glass of water.
