The Portland Museum of Art in Maine has tapped Jaime DeSimone as associate curator of contemporary art. DeSimone joins the institution following her time as a curator at Florida’s Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. While there, she curated exhibitions including one with connections to Maine: “A Dark Place of Dreams: Louise Nevelson with Chakaia Booker, Lauren Fensterstock, and Kate Gilmore.” Other previous work experiences includes a stint at exhibitions project manager at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, and an assistant curator position at the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts.
At the Portland Museum, DeSimone will organize exhibitions and oversee new acquisitions and existing holdings. In a statement, she said, “It is an honor to join the PMA’s curatorial team and play a role in shaping the cultural fabric of the community. I am very excited to return to Maine, where my passion for art history blossomed, and build upon the existing successes of PMA’s contemporary art program.”
