What’s the story of the artwork ?
‘Natura est ars dei ‘ – God is nature, is in the same stream as ‘Save our trees, save us’. Inspired by myths of elfs and Poison Ivy, it shows a female character at a larval stage who is the source of everything around her.
Feminine like the matrix though she also looks androgenic too. It is a source of potentials not yet defined that will later and always proliferate and extend life with multiplicity. The artwork was painted by Anthea with muted colours for a collective mural with three female artists during Street Art au Feminin – Feminine Street art – in Brussels all through march, and as a celebration of women’s day.
Later, Anthea painted the same mural in her original colours in situ. She contextualised the work on a brick wall in Hackney Wick East London and embedded the character with ivy trees like a circle of life.
The canal that runs in front of the mural, recalls the power of nature, that works at a slow pace, almost invisible, but works steadily to recreate itself, endlessly. The tribute to nature Anthea Missy delivers is not a new idea, but surely a cute reminder of essential aspects of the human life and that we are all part of it.
