Street Art Today goes Russia – StreetArt.Today
From the 6th to the 9th of September, Street Art Today (SAT), represented by its director and curator Peter Ernst Coolen, is going to attend the II International Museum Conference “Sustainable Dialogues” at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Among the participants there are leading museums such as the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the State Hermitage Museum and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. The conference focuses on the topic “Museums through the local gaze” and aims to stimulate the knowledge exchange between Russian and Dutch museums about their experiences with communities.
Coolen is going to give a lecture at the session “Museum as Local Economy Driver”. In this talk, he exposes the involvement of Street Art Today with communities for the past 3 years that contributed to the shaping of our upcoming museum. Besides, it is going to be explored how street art and a museum dedicated to it can be tools for sustainable development in different community levels. SAT’s curator perceives the idea of community both in a local and global perspective, as technology brings the world closer. By participating in this significant international conference in the museum sphere, SAT aspires to highlight street art’s cultural and artistic value as a heritage and the relevance of building a museum to preserve it.
The event is organized by the Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Russia), the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the State Hermitage Museum, the State Russian Museum and Exhibition Centre ROSPHOTO, the DutchCulture and the Foundation of Amsterdam Museums (SAM).
