Recap: Audrey Kawasaki – “Gilded Horizon” @ KP Projects

Last weekend, KP Projects in Los Angeles closed a group show entitled Gilded Horizon that featured the work of six artists – Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed), Johnny “KMDZ” Rodriguez, JP Neang, Jean-Pierre Arboleda, and Melany Meza-Dierks. For her part of the exhibition, Kawasaki took inspiration from ethnic women in Mongolia, Armenia, Kenya, Yemen and more for her stunning portraitures on wood, adding in some intricate jewelry and headwear for her increasingly complex compositions. Tonight (December 2nd) in downtown Los Angeles at Corey Helford Gallery, Attaboy will be presenting a new series of paintings entitled collectively Grow In The Dark. For his first showing in the last six years, he has decided to share some pieces that have a more sculptural dimension to them. Jeff Soto (interviewed) currently has a timed edition available with Prints On Wood through December 3rd. Entitled Nightgarden, the image for the wood print was taken from his 2015 Los Angeles exhibit of the same name (covered). Measuring 36″ x 10.5″, each one will come signed & numbered and cost $175. This Saturday night (December 2nd), James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed) will be opening a solo show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. The Space Monkey Returns features a new body of work celebrating the 20th anniversary of one of the North Carolina-based artist’s most iconic characters. It seemed Marshall had retired the space monkey a while back and moved on to other things, but as he mentioned in his recent interview here, it made sense to revisit it at this time.
